Multimodal Transport

Transport plays a key role among CEI’s operations. Over the years, the CEI has supported numerous initiatives aimed at development and modernisation of transport infrastructure, development of Pan-European Corridors crossing the CEI region, harmonisation of standards in freight transport, improvement of transport safety, reduction of environmental impact of transport, and many others.

In the planning period 2010-2012, the CEI continues its commitment in transport focusing its resources on Technical Cooperation assignments (in support of EBRD investment projects and following Bank’s priorities), participation in EU-funded projects, and co-financing of capacity building initiatives across the region.

The CEI strategies in the transport field, fully outlined in the CEI Plan of Action 2010- 2012, indentify two priority issues:

  • Facilitation of Trade and Improvement of Connections to Regional Markets by Joint Infrastructure Project Design and Financing (special attention to transnational cooperation in border crossing).
  • Elimination of non-Infrastructural Barriers in Transport of Passengers and Goods
The CEI priorities in transport are delivered through Technical Cooperation, Cooperation Fund, participation in EU-funded programmes, and organisation of high-level transport meetings.
