Central European Initiative InConcerto
The project Central European Initiative InConcerto, co-financed by the Education Audiovisual Cultural Executive Agency under the EU programme Culture 2007 – 2013, is meant to support and expand the activities of the CEI Youth Orchestra (CEI-YO).
The CEI-YO is a symphony orchestra made up of around 80 musicians, between 11 and 18 years of age, selected from leading Music Schools of the 18 CEI Member States.
The basic philosophy of the CEI-YO is to offer a unique formative experience to talented young musicians at an early stage of their development in an international environment and under the guidance of highly-qualified teaching staff.
The origins of the CEI-YO date back to 1994, when a youth string orchestra by the name of “Young European Musicians” was founded by the Italian / Slovene conductor M° Igor Coretti-Kuret. Four years later it was transformed into a symphony orchestra named “Young Musicians’ International Symphony Orchestra" (YMISO), organised by the Association “Scuola per Giovani Musicisti" in Trieste.
As a perfect example of regional cohesion and intercultural cooperation, the Orchestra meets the essential goals and values of the CEI. On these grounds, in their Summit held in Portorož on November 2004, the CEI Heads of Government decided to officially adopt the YMISO, later renamed "CEI Youth Orchestra".
By supporting a project that perfectly reflects some of its guiding principles, the CEI promoted a new approach to intercultural cooperation that made it possible to pursue its mission: to bring together people from CEI Member States in common endeavours, to focus on young and talented people, to offer a stimulating environment and to present the CEI at its best – creativity, optimism, orientation towards the future and full appreciation for the European musical heritage.
In partnership with 5 music schools - from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Austria - and with the Municipality of Salsomaggiore Terme, Italy, the CEI-ES has the opportunity to reinforce its Youth Orchestra.
The InConcerto Project foresees a number of scheduled activities which allow the CEI-YO to improve its outreach. At the beginning of each year, auditions take place in the CEI Member States in order to select the young musicians who will perform the yearly programme of concerts.
Selected musicians meet three or four times per year (during their school vacation) in different CEI Member States where they receive expert instruction and prepare the music programme for their concert performances. The best 30 musicians will be then invited to attend a Music Chamber Course.
